This is one of the few remaining traditional Chinese pastry confectionery in Singapore. It has extensive variety of mooncake during the mid-autumn festival. Mooncake still taste good even after the festival. A little far from the mrt station but it is accessible via several buses. Take a 350m walk after alighting from the bus. Service staff is helpful. Called to inform i will be arriving near closing time and he waited for me.

Received the mooncake as a gift. This is the first time I am trying the mooncake from this brand! The mooncake has a white lotus flavour and contains a single yolk. The baked mooncake is well moulded and it is not too dry. The filling is not too sweet as well, which makes it nice. There is quite a lot of filling in the mooncake too!

Charcoal snow skin Mao shan Wang moon cake is definitely worthwhile for its price. I strongly recommend this.

It comes in an elegant red box, which is perfect for gifting to your parents or in-laws. Traditional mooncakes and red colors are usually liked by elderly people, so this is sure to please them.

Kay Yu
Went to the takashimaya mooncake fair last week and bought their durian mooncakes. I’m a huge fan of durians, and I think their durian paste is very rich and “duriany”. I’ve tried other expensive brands, and have no idea why some brands like to add milk or cream into their durian paste…it dilutes the durian fragrance. If you are looking for a strong flavour durian mooncake, this is good! I actually went back purchase another 4 boxes as gifts…oops 🤣 I also like the mooncake skin, it’s soft and chewy, and doesnt break apart super easily like some other brands I’ve tried.

Junhao Tan
Got the MSW durian mooncake, low sugar lotus with n without egg yolk! It’s great that they provide low sugar option as it’s more healthy and the taste wasn’t compromised at all and tasted just as yummy! MSW durian was delightful & came with a generous fillings. Another great brand to get your mooncake cravings satisfied!

As an avid durian enthusiast, I’m always on the lookout for the best varieties this exotic fruit has to offer. Recently, I had the pleasure of trying the renowned Mao Shan Wang and Black Thorn durian from Golden Moments, and it was nothing short of an extraordinary experience. The first thing that strikes you about the Mao Shan Wang durian is its distinctive spiky exterior. When you cut it open, you’re greeted by the vibrant golden-yellow flesh, which gleams temptingly under any light. Mao Shan Wang durians are notorious for their strong aroma, and Golden Moments does not disappoint. The smell is robust, a mix of sweet and earthy tones that can be overwhelming for some but is music to the ears of seasoned durian aficionados. It’s the kind of scent that fills the room and announces its presence – for those who love durian, this is a tantalizing invitation. The “Black Thorn” designation refers to its unique flavor notes and higher quality, often considered one of the best durians available. Golden Moments has managed to encapsulate this distinction with their careful sourcing and attention to detail. In conclusion, Golden Moments’ Mao Shan Wang & Black Thorn durian is a testament to the wonders of this controversial fruit. Whether you are a seasoned durian lover or someone eager to dip their toes into the world of this unique delicacy, I wholeheartedly recommend trying Golden Moments’ offering. It’s a golden moment indeed, one that brings joy to the palate and leaves a lasting impression.

Give credit when credit are due. I bought a box of Traditional Mooncake as a gift for my future in-laws and a box of Durian mooncake for my parents. The photos I attached are for the Traditional mooncake, and I am just amazed by the quality of the packaging. Pardon that I am unable to taste it for obvious reason, but the presentation looks more expensive than it costs. Honestly, I walked thru the mooncake fairs at shopping centres and nothing caught my attention in term of presentation. Ding Bakery’s pricing was competitive and it comes with free delivery! In addition, I got to say I am very satisfied with the overall buying experience – from customer service responsiveness , prompt delivery & quality of product. Keep it up, the team from Ding Bakery! Thank you for the amazing experience!

Bought 2 boxes of snowskin mooncake (a box of assorted, and a box of 8pcs maoshanwang) during the early bird promotion. The mooncakes tasted great esp the MSW durian mooncakes, our guests loved it but unfortunately we discovered one mooncake in the MSW box has no MSW in it at all… only then we realised that that piece is labelled as “photoshooting” at the bottom side of the wrapper… contacted customer service they were apologetic and provided compensation promptly. Pleased with the presentation, taste and aftersales service. Despite the unfortunate incident, the Ding Bakery team handled it professionally. Recommended.

I recently tried one of their mooncake that truly lives up to the hype as one of the 2024 best mooncake singapore. The flavor was outstanding—rich and flavorful without being overly sweet. The texture was spot-on, with a perfectly balanced filling.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The most popular types of durian mooncakes in Singapore are undoubtedly those filled with Mao Shan Wang durian, often shortened to MSW. This premium durian variety is prized for its rich, bittersweet flavour and creamy texture, making it the top choice for a luxurious mooncake filling. While other durian varieties such as D24 and Black Thorn are also used and have a strong following, the Mao Shan Wang mooncake holds a royal position in the market.

Apart from the filling, the vast majority of durian mooncakes sold in Singapore are of the snow skin variety, which is often known as bing pi in Chinese. The delicate, chewy, and unbaked skin is the perfect complement to the chilled, creamy durian filling. Unlike traditional baked mooncakes with their dense pastry and lotus paste, the snow skin allows the pure flavour and texture of the durian to be the star of the show.

Durian mooncakes are typically more expensive than their traditional counterparts primarily due to the cost of the durian itself. High-grade durian varieties, especially Mao Shan Wang, are a premium agricultural product with a high market value. The best mooncakes use a large proportion of pure durian pulp, which drives up the production cost significantly. The price is a direct reflection of the quality and quantity of the fruit used in the filling.

In addition to the durian, the cost is also influenced by other factors such as the brand’s reputation, packaging, and production methods. Many premium brands use elegant and sophisticated boxes, which are designed for gifting and add to the final price. Furthermore, durian mooncakes are often handmade in smaller batches to ensure freshness and quality, which is a more labour-intensive process than mass production.

Yes, there are several bakeries and hotels in Singapore that offer halal-certified durian mooncakes. A halal certification ensures that the mooncakes are prepared without any non-halal ingredients such as pork or lard, and that the production process adheres to Islamic dietary laws. This makes them a safe and inclusive option for Muslim consumers who wish to participate in the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Notable brands known for their halal-certified offerings include Bread Garden and certain hotel bakeries. When purchasing, it is important to look for the official halal logo from the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) on the packaging, as this guarantees the product’s compliance. Some brands may label their products as ‘pork-free’, but this is not the same as being officially halal-certified.

The primary difference lies in their preparation and ingredients. Snow skin durian mooncakes are a modern innovation and are not baked at all. They feature a soft, chewy skin made from glutinous rice flour that is often lightly coloured with natural ingredients. These mooncakes must be kept chilled or frozen, and their unbaked nature allows the natural freshness and flavour of the durian to shine.

In contrast, a baked durian mooncake has a traditional golden-brown pastry crust, similar to classic mooncakes. This type is less common for durian fillings but can still be found. The baked crust is thicker and less delicate, and the durian filling is typically made into a paste that can withstand the baking process. While they offer a different texture and flavour profile, the chilled snow skin variety remains the overwhelmingly popular choice for durian lovers.

Durian mooncakes, especially the snow skin variety, require careful storage to maintain their quality and freshness. They should be placed in the freezer as soon as possible after purchase to prevent them from spoiling. The cold temperature is crucial for preserving the creamy texture of the durian filling and the delicate skin.

When you wish to consume a mooncake, it is best to take it out of the freezer and let it thaw in the refrigerator for a few hours. This allows it to reach the ideal chilled temperature and texture. It is generally recommended to consume the mooncakes within a week of purchase, but if you need to store them for a longer period, they can be kept in the freezer for up to a few weeks. Always ensure they are in an airtight container to prevent them from absorbing odours from other food items.

For many Singaporeans, the search for the best Mao Shan Wang mooncakes often leads to a few renowned establishments. Goodwood Park Hotel is widely regarded as a pioneer in the durian mooncake scene and is famous for its luxurious and consistent offerings. Other popular choices include The Durian Bakery, which specialises in all things durian and has a strong reputation for using pure, high-quality fruit.

Additionally, a number of well-known bakeries, such as Gin Thye and Bread Garden, are celebrated for their classic and authentic durian mooncakes that are both delicious and reasonably priced. For those seeking an ultra-premium experience, brands like Golden Moments and Royal Durian offer exquisite creations that often feature edible gold and other high-end ingredients.

Yes, it is very common for bakeries and hotels in Singapore to offer early bird promotions and other discounts on their mooncakes. These deals typically begin a few weeks to a month before the Mid-Autumn Festival and are a great way to save money on your purchase. Many brands also have ongoing promotions for cardholders of major banks like DBS/POSB, OCBC, and UOB.

To find the best deals, it is advisable to follow your favourite bakeries and brands on social media or subscribe to their newsletters, as they often announce promotions there. Purchasing during the early bird period or using a credit card from a partner bank can lead to significant savings, especially when buying in bulk for gifting.

The shelf life of a durian mooncake is quite short due to its fresh ingredients and lack of preservatives. Snow skin durian mooncakes, which are the most common type, typically last only a few days in the refrigerator. They are best consumed within one to three days of purchase to enjoy their optimal taste and texture.

For longer-term storage, they can be kept in the freezer for up to several weeks or even a month. However, it is important to check the specific storage instructions provided by the manufacturer, as they can vary. When ready to eat, simply thaw them in the refrigerator for a few hours. Baked durian mooncakes tend to have a slightly longer shelf life and can be stored at room temperature for up to a week.

Yes, most bakeries and mooncake vendors in Singapore offer delivery services, especially during the Mid-Autumn Festival season. This is a very convenient option for those who want to send mooncakes as gifts or for those who prefer to shop from home. Many brands have a dedicated online store where you can place an order and schedule a delivery date.

Some companies offer free delivery with a minimum purchase amount, while others charge a nominal fee. It is important to note that due to the perishable nature of durian mooncakes, they are usually delivered in a chilled or frozen state in cooler bags. It is always best to be present at the time of delivery to ensure they are stored correctly as soon as they arrive.

Choosing the best durian mooncake depends entirely on personal preference. If you enjoy a strong, bittersweet flavour and a creamy, rich texture, you should opt for a Mao Shan Wang or Black Gold Mao Shan Wang mooncake. These are widely considered the gold standard and are the most popular choice among durian aficionados.

If you prefer a milder, sweeter taste, a D24 durian mooncake might be more to your liking. Furthermore, you can also consider other unique varieties such as Red Prawn or Black Thorn for a different flavour profile. It is also important to read reviews from other customers, as they often provide honest opinions on the quality of the durian filling, the sweetness level, and the overall value for money.
