CNY may come and go, but the bak kwa cravings? They stay all year round. That smoky-sweet, charcoal-grilled goodness makes it way too easy to justify “just one more slice,” even when the reunion dinners and mandarin oranges are long packed away.

Whether you’re the type to stash a pack in your bag for a mid-shopping pick-me-up or you simply can’t do a Netflix night without something to nibble on, we get it—good bak kwa doesn’t need a festive excuse. So instead of waiting till next Lunar New Year to get your fix, we’ve gone ahead and rounded up the best bak kwa in Singapore for 2026, from heritage favourites to hidden hawker gems, so you can satisfy that craving whenever it hits.

Note: This list is strictly not in order.

1. Bee Cheng Hiang Grillery

Bee Cheng Hiang Grillery Singapore Bak Kwa
Image Credit: Bee Cheng Hiang Grillery

Bee Cheng Hiang is basically the OG it-girl of the bak kwa scene. With over 40 outlets locally and 300+ worldwide, the brand really achieved a “global takeover” of sorts. Since 1933, their recipe has stayed untouched, and every slice is still hand-laid over bamboo sieves, so no two pieces are ever twins.

Texture-wise, expect a thicker cut that leans lean and firm rather than melt-in-mouth, but don’t worry, it’s still juicy, not jerky-tough. The char is gorgeous and even (so photogenic, no notes), though the marinade’s syrupy sweetness can get a lil jelak if you’re not pacing yourself between bites. As for the price, Bee Cheng Hiang is definitely not the cheapest bak kwa in Singapore, but for a heritage name during festive season rush, it’s a fair trade. Solid pick if you want that classic, no-surprises bak kwa goodness.

Prices:

  • Prime Bak Kwa: $25.50++
  • Sliced Pork: $22.50++
  • Minced Pork: $21.90++

Highlights:

  • 40+ outlets in Singapore and 300+ worldwide
  • Thicker, leaner slices that are firm yet still juicy
  • Hand-laid over bamboo sieves for a traditional preparation
  • Heritage recipe unchanged since 1933

We saw influencers introducing this special Bee Cheng Hiang’s outlet that they offer dine-in services, so we decided to give it a try. We were lucky to get a reservation during the Mother’s Day weekend. When we arrived at our reserved time, there was no waiting needed at all. The staff were very patient and attentive, and the service was excellent throughout the meal. Before serving the main course, they even offered us complimentary bak kwa samples. Many of the dishes incorporated bak kwa, and even the ice cream had it, which was quite unique. Overall, we had a pretty good experience. Our favorite was the cheesy bak kwa toasties. Even after cooling down, the bread remained crispy and crunchy.

A real surprise find along Serangoon. Our party of 3 enjoyed the Sautéed Truffle Mushroom, Black Angus Ribeye Steak, Mushroom Risotto, Mozzarella Katsu and Bak Kwa Ice Cream. Everything was truly well done, with the exception of the steak which was medium-rare 🙂 The steak was perfect: juicy and nicely done by the chef. Service from the staff was impeccable. It is no different from eating at any fine dining establishment in my opinion. I didn’t drive because I think carpark here may be a challenge. But it won’t stop us from coming back.

Seng Wee Wong
Love the atmosphere here! Food is great, it’s a fine dining twist with local flavours. You can expect bakkwa infused food in every dish you eat here but the combination is just right. Good stuff here, recommend all to dine here.

2. Lim Chee Guan

Lim Chee Guan Singapore Bak Kwa

If bak kwa had a hall of fame, Lim Chee Guan would be inducted, no debate. Since 1938, this Chinatown legend has been hand-flipping thin slices over glowing charcoal to lock in that juicy-meets-delicate balance, and honestly, the dedication shows. Everything’s handmade, preservative-free, and made from premium pork that’s passed all the proper checks, so you can snack guilt-free (well, mostly).

Each piece comes out with that irresistible smoky char and a caramelized finish that hits sweet, savory, and chewy all at once. The real flex though? Ten — TEN — varieties to choose from, from classic sliced pork to BBQ chicken, beef, prawn, and even fish, so there’s genuinely something for every kind of girlie at the table. Overall, Lim Chee Guan is a one-stop shop if you want options without compromising on quality.

Prices:

  • Signature Sliced Pork: $40
  • BBQ Chili Pork: $41
  • BBQ Bacon: $60
  • Gold Coin Pork: $37

Highlights:

  • 10 varieties, including pork, chicken, beef, prawn and fish
  • Thin slices with a smoky char and caramelised finish
  • Handmade and preservative-free using premium pork
  • Established in 1938 with a long-standing Chinatown heritage

Customer Reviews:

Marco Bartolini
Very tasty food 😋 BBQ chilli pork was delicious 😋 the queue was huge as this shop is very popular

Zozo
Every year, same story: long queues, zero leftovers. This is the bak kwa everyone recognises and reaches for first. Once it hits the table, it’s basically game over. Tender, smoky, slightly caramelised, not overly sweet — dangerously addictive, tbh. It’s one of those snacks that instantly feels satisfying

Chia Hau Lee
Although you can buy bak kwa all year round, somehow it only feels right during Chinese New Year. And for me, Lim Chee Guan is easily one of the best in Singapore. Even though there’s usually a queue (especially during the festive period), the line moves pretty fast. Noticed quite a number of foreign buyers too — always a good sign! If you’re coming from Chinatown MRT Station, just take Exit A and you’ll spot it easily. Price is about $40 per 500g, which is on the premium side, but the quality justifies it. The bak kwa is nicely caramelised, fragrant, and not overly dry — that perfect balance of sweet and smoky. It’s located right beside Fragrance Bak Kwa, but Lim Chee Guan remains my go-to brand in Singapore whenever the bak kwa craving hits. Definitely a must-buy for CNY or even just a treat for yourself!

3. Fragrance Bak Kwa

Fragrance Bak Kwa Singapore

Fragrance has been in the game since 1969 and has grown into one of SG’s biggest bak kwa names — think of it as the reliable, always-there-for-you friend. The brand is best known for their marinade built on a secret 18-herb-and-spice blend, and it shows in the flavour: sweet up front, with a floral, earthy finish that almost tastes maple-y.

Texture is a total win too, as their bak kwa lends to a beautifully tender bite with just the right ratio of lean meat to soft fat, delivering an experience that never feels one-note. Heads up though, since there’s no added preservatives, unrefrigerated shelf life is only about 5 days, so don’t let it linger in your bag too long. Also worth knowing: not halal-certified due to shared facilities. Budget-friendly and easy to find everywhere, making it the go-to grab when you just need a reliable fix.

Prices:

  • Signature Sliced Tender Bak Kwa: $30
  • Chili Bak Kwa: $30
  • Bacon Bak Kwa: $35
  • Honey Bak Kwa: $30

Highlights:

  • Wallet-friendly option that is easy to find across Singapore
  • Tender texture with a balanced lean-meat-to-fat ratio
  • Uses a secret blend of 18 herbs and spices
  • Established in 1969 and known for its signature marinade

Customer Reviews:

Eva Park
Absolute Perfection! A Must-Buy! The moment you open the packaging, the rich, smoky charcoal aroma hits you—it truly lives up to its name! The meat is thick and satisfyingly chewy without being dry at all. The balance between the sweet honey glaze and the savory meat is spot on, and the flavor just gets better with every bite. Both the elderly and the kids in my family absolutely love it. You can’t go wrong with this classic flavor. Will definitely restock!

Vanessa Sudianto
Have been a loyal customer ever since. Love their Bak kwa, lapchiong, floss and so many more👍

Anthony Ng
The flagship store is big and a lot of choices to buy other than the traditional Bak Kwa. I encourage ppl to drop by for some shopping in this store and the staff is very friendly to introduce their product!

4. Century Bakkwa

Century Bakkwa Singapore

Helmed by Simbian Chua, Century Bakkwa only opened in 2021, but the master recipe traces back to 1988, passed down from a bak kwa maestro she connected with through a mutual friend.

The brand stands out for their use of Spanish pork, which is hand-marinated in small batches and grilled fresh on charcoal right at the shop with no factory machines involved. Because the process is so hands-on, output is limited, which honestly just adds to the appeal (scarcity marketing but make it artisanal). It’s not just a Lunar New Year treat anymore either; loyal fans stock up on it year-round. Expect premium pricing to match the premium process, but if you’re after that exclusive, small-batch charm, she delivers.

Prices:

  • Omakwa-se Bakkwa Set: $78
  • Golden Horse Box: $58

Highlights:

  • Wallet-friendly option that is easy to find across Singapore
  • Tender texture with a balanced lean-meat-to-fat ratio
  • Uses a secret blend of 18 herbs and spices
  • Established in 1969 and known for its signature marinade

Customer Reviews:

Wend Tan (WTAN)
Was recommended this bakkwa and I just love the variety. Bought lychee and yuzu flavour, totally can tell the difference. Love their packaging, which is individually packed, good quality boxes and cute little horse keychains! Whilst delivery was not ideal, saw the news and IG and my heart feels for them given the shipment delays and fire in their shop as well. All these cause unnecessary cost to them, but they still tried their best to expedite all orders, even offering full refunds. Business nowadays really not easy. Let’s support local! 👍🏻

hs su
Really like Century Bakkwa. The bakkwa is tender and not too sweet or oily – Osmanthus and Yuzu are my favourites, very fragrant and easy to eat. Their kueh lapis is one of the best in Singapore for us, so it’s something we end up ordering every year. Good quality and great for gifting.

Elida Lim
Came across this outlet at Wisma level 1, lady boss super friendly, the bakkwa has varieties of interesting flavours like yuzu and pineapple which I like them personally. Although price is on the higher side but afterall you are buying the “Spanish pork” quality. Come and try, you will know 🙂

5. Kim Wah Heong

Kim Wah Heong Bak Kwa Singapore

Tucked away near Farrer Road at Empress Road Market, Kim Wah Heong is the ultimate hidden-gem energy due to the lack of any flashy storefront. Started by a former butcher, this one-stall operation handles everything from meat sourcing to grilling personally, and fans swear it’s Michelin-level good.

The bak kwa comes out juicy, soft, and smoky, with an aroma that’ll have you following your nose before you even see the stall. The brand’s best two bestsellers are the Minced (soft, melt-in-your-mouth) and the Sliced (classic charcoal-grilled chew) Pork, plus a Chilli version for the spice-loving girlies as well as a Truffle bak kwa for when you want main character, gourmet-twist energy. Bonus: it reheats beautifully at home and stays soft, so leftovers still hit. A must-try if you’re willing to detour off the beaten path.

Prices:

  • Sliced Pork: $68/kg
  • Minced Pork: $66/kg
  • Chilli Bak Kwa: $70/kg
  • Truffle Bak Kwa: $72/kg

Highlights:

  • Juicy, soft and smoky, with a texture that reheats well
  • Offers minced, sliced, chilli and truffle bak kwa
  • Handles meat sourcing and grilling personally
  • One-stall operation run by a former butcher

Customer Reviews:

PENNY LIM
I love their traditional, old-school charcoal-grilled, thinly sliced bak kwa. It feels like quiet luxury — understated but top-tier. My all-time favourite is the chilli bak kwa: juicy and packed with flavour. Make sure to order in advance because they sell out fast! Not forgetting their pork floss and lup cheong too. *slurpz*

LU CHE-YU HCI
This bak kwa store has been around for over 40 years! The aroma of the bak kwa is delightful and the taste is also satsifying. The owner of this store is really nice and kind would definitely recommend others to try out this store!

Tivon Hong
The bakwa is insanely good, genuinely addicting. The process for bakwa is really hard, so I find it crazy how he makes it so good every time. 10/10 actually the best stall I’ve seen. Will come back for more 100%

6. Kim Joo Guan

Kim Joo Guan Bak Kwa Singapore

Family-run and five decades deep, Kim Joo Guan is the definition of quiet consistency. The Ong family recipe traces back to early 20th-century Fujian and has been passed down four generations, using 100% Australian grain-fed pork that’s chilled (never frozen) for a cleaner, more natural taste.

Because it comes vacuum-sealed, the texture leans slightly firmer and needs a bit more chewing than some other brands on this list, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Flavour-wise, it’s more understated. It’s lightly seasoned, has no gaminess, features a subtle smokiness, and comes with a marinade that’s well-balanced rather than in-your-face sweet or salty. For something a little more premium, their Gourmet Traditional option at $6.80 per 100g offers thicker, meatier slices that many consider a solid deal. Perfect if you want bak kwa that lets the quality meat do the talking.

Prices:

  • Premium Iberico Bak Kwa: $108
  • Gourmet Traditional Bak Kwa: $34++
  • Traditional Vacuum-packed Bak Kwa: $17++
  • Gold Coin Bak Kwa: $33++

Highlights:

  • Offers premium options including Iberico and Gourmet Traditional bak kwa
  • Known for a firm bite, subtle smokiness and balanced sweetness
  • Uses 100% Australian grain-fed pork that is chilled, never frozen
  • Family-run for five decades with a four-generation recipe

So good please!!!! Did a taste test comparison this CNY between all the different brands, & KJG really stood out! The least oily & most fragrant! Mother in law says she’s only buying from here from now on!!

Alexandra Aeschlimann-Haller
So glad so few people know about this. It’s incredible. Great bite. Perfectly sweet and not overdone. Best hot. In heaven right now.

Andrea Kim
Taste-wise, it stands out with a firm bite, good chew, and balanced sweetness. Not drenched in honey syrup like mainstream bakwa brands, so it isn’t sticky or cloying. Packaging is clean and sturdy with no oil leakage. Product quality is strong, but staff attitude needs improvement.

7. Kim Hua Guan Bak Kua

Kim Hua Guan Bak Kua Singapore

Kim Hua Guan has been serving up smoky, charcoal-grilled goodness since 1969, and their tagline pretty much says it all: happiness in every bite. The star of the show is their Signature Minced Meat Bak Kwa, a family recipe that’s hand-pressed and grilled to that iconic smoky-sweet finish fans can’t stop raving about — soft, not overly sweet, just delicious.

The irregular, hand-cut edges mean extra charred bits (the best part, don’t @ me), paired with tender, juicy centres and a satisfying sweet finish. For the spice-seekers, their Chilli Bak Kwa brings a slow-building heat wrapped around premium pork. And for gifting season, the Honey Gold Coin is a total showstopper with its bite-sized, honey-glazed, and glistening caramelized sweetness. A well-rounded lineup that covers every craving.

Prices:

  • Signature Minced Pork Bak Kwa: $21++
  • Chilli Bak Kwa: $21.60++
  • Honey Gold Coin Bak Kwa: $22.20

  • Serving charcoal-grilled bak kwa since 1969

Saw a blog online talking about top 10 bakkwa in singapore and Kim Hua Guan topped the list. I got the sliced pork type, it was good. I believe price is around that of Bee Cheng Hiang and Lim Chee Guan. Id say level of bakkwa is similar too altho I cannot really pinpoint the difference hehe 🙂 Went to the branch at Chinatown — People Park Complex hawker center and also had dinner at a braised duck stall there.

Julius Tan
Delicious bak kwa with a great smoky aroma and taste. They are quite tender as well but I prefer the slices to be a little thinner. Definitely one of the best Bak Kwa in Singapore, go for their signature minced meat bak kwa. Costs 70 SGD per kilo.

P Chung
Went down 4 days before CNY. I arrived at 10am and queued for almost 3 hours. Each customer is limited to 2kg, priced at $78 per kg. The staff will trim away the overly burnt parts at the sides. The meat was soft, sweet, and delicious! The staff and lady boss were also very friendly and helpful.

8. Kim Tee

Kim Tee Best Bak Kwa Singapore

Kim Tee’s story starts in the early ’70s with a humble Adam Road kampung stall, later becoming New Eastern (Kim Tee) Dried and Minced Pork in 1976. Fifty years on, the flagship store is still slinging bak kwa from the same original spot, affectionately nicknamed the “Ang Sar Lee” bak kwa by longtime regulars.

The Signature Bak Kwa, thin and tender with a nostalgic char aroma, remains the fan favourite passed down through three generations of the same family. Everything is still made the old-school way: hand-grilled over charcoal from start to finish, no tenderisers, no preservatives, just lean, trimmed pork and a secret in-house marinade.

The result is a thinner, more delicate bite that’s easy on the jaw, making it a hit with kids and grandparents alike. Total nostalgia in every piece.

Prices:

  • Signature Bak Kwa: $37.20

9. Bee Kim Heng

Bee Kim Heng Bak Kwa Singapore

Running strong since 1951 out of their sole stall at People’s Park Food Centre, Bee Kim Heng was founded by a former Bee Cheng Hiang cook, so you already know the pedigree is there. Over 70 years later, it’s still 100% charcoal-grilled, no shortcuts.

Bee Kim Heng’s bak kwa’s most distinctive feature is the light crunch along the caramelised edges (which is something you don’t get with a lot of the bigger commercial brands) paired with slices that stay tender yet springy despite the thicker cut.

Flavour-wise, it’s sweet but never sickly, balanced out by smoky char and a subtle brininess from fish sauce that cuts through the richness beautifully. All in all, this hidden hawker gem proves that the best bak kwa doesn’t always come from the flashiest storefront — sometimes it’s the quiet stall that hits hardest.

Prices:

  • Sliced Pork Bak Kwa: $7.50/100g

Highlights:

  • Distinctive caramelised edge crunch with a sweet, smoky and lightly briny flavour
  • 100% charcoal-grilled with tender, springy thicker slices
  • Founded by a former Bee Cheng Hiang cook
  • Established in 1951 and still operates from a sole People’s Park Food Centre stall

Our pick: Bee Cheng Hiang Grillery

Bee Cheng Hiang is the definition of a dependable classic. Between its extensive outlet network, consistent quality and approachable pricing, it’s easily one of the most convenient choices for busy ladies who don’t want to hunt all over Singapore for a good snack. 2. If you’re chasing premium artisanal quality:

Our pick: Century Bakkwa

3. If you want the best value without compromising flavour:

Our pick: Fragrance Bak Kwa

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. How long does freshly bought bak kwa last at room temperature, and how should I store it?

Freshly grilled, unsealed bak kwa usually keeps for three to five days at ambient room temperature in Singapore’s humid climate. Because of its moisture content and high sugar glaze, storing it in a cool, dry place inside an airtight container works fine for the short term. If you intend to keep it past a week, pop it into the fridge where it will last up to a month, or freeze it in individual portions for up to three months.

2. What is the best way to reheat bak kwa so it retains its juiciness and charcoal flavour?

The most effective method is using a toaster oven or air fryer set to 160°C for two to three minutes, which gently renders the fat and revives the caramelised glaze without drying out the meat. If you only have a microwave, heat it alongside a small glass of water on medium power for 10 to 15 seconds to prevent it from turning tough and rubbery. Alternatively, a quick warm-up on a dry non-stick frying pan over low heat works wonders for restoring that fresh-off-the-grill texture.

3. Why do bak kwa prices surge so dramatically leading up to Chinese New Year?

The festive price hike stems from a combination of massive demand spikes, surging raw ingredient costs, and intense labour requirements. Fresh pork prices generally rise before the holiday, and traditional heritage shops must hire extra seasonal staff or pay overtime rates to run grills around the clock. Furthermore, retailers adjust their pricing strategies to capitalise on the holiday gift-giving culture where bak kwa serves as a customary status gift.

4. What is the difference between minced pork bak kwa and sliced pork bak kwa?

Minced pork bak kwa is made from ground pork mixed with fat, resulting in a softer, yieldingly tender texture that is easier to chew and generally more budget-friendly. Sliced pork bak kwa uses whole cuts of pork shoulder or leg sliced into thin sheets, giving it a firmer, toothsome bite with distinct meat fibres and less fat. Minced versions tend to absorb sweet marinades and retain juice more easily, whereas sliced versions offer a richer, meatier bite.

5. Can I bring Singaporean pork bak kwa overseas when travelling or sending gifts to relatives?

It depends strictly on your destination country’s agricultural import regulations. Countries such as Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Japan, and Taiwan have stringent bans on meat products—including cooked or vacuum-sealed pork—to prevent swine fevers and agricultural diseases, meaning customs officers will confiscate it. However, bringing it across the Causeway into Malaysia or to certain Southeast Asian neighbours for personal consumption is generally permitted, provided it is commercially vacuum-packed.

6. Is it fat or mould? How can I tell if my bak kwa has gone bad?

White patches on bak kwa stored in the fridge or a cool environment are usually just congealed pork fat or crystallised sugar, which melt away when heated. True mould appears as fuzzy, raised spots with a greenish, greyish, or powdery white appearance, often accompanied by a sour smell or a slimy texture. If heating a piece dissolves the white spots into clear oil, it is safe to eat; if the spots remain fuzzy or the smell is off, discard the entire batch immediately.

7. How many calories are in a standard piece of bak kwa, and how can I enjoy it more healthily?

A typical square piece of pork bak kwa (roughly 50 to 60 grams) contains between 180 and 230 calories, along with about 8 to 12 grams of fat and up to 15 grams of sugar due to the maltose glaze. To manage your intake, slice your portion into smaller bite-sized strips to share, opt for turkey, chicken, or mushroom-based alternatives, or look for modern lower-sugar options that allow for better portion control.

8. Are halal or vegetarian versions of bak kwa available in Singapore, and do they taste authentic?

Yes, halal and vegetarian bak kwa have become widely available across Singapore. Halal variations typically use chicken, beef, or mutton marinated in traditional sweet-savoury spices and cooked on dedicated halal-certified grills. Vegetarian bak kwa is commonly made from soy protein, mushroom fibre, or konjac, using liquid smoke and red yeast rice to replicate the smoky flavour, reddish colour, and chewy texture of authentic pork jerky.

9. What is the difference between fresh paper-wrapped bak kwa and vacuum-packed bak kwa?

Freshly grilled bak kwa wrapped in greaseproof paper offers superior aroma, charred edges, and optimal moisture, but it carries a short shelf life of under a week. Vacuum-packed bak kwa undergoes a sealing process that extends its shelf life to several months at room temperature without added preservatives, making it ideal for gifting or long-term storage. While vacuum-packing slightly compresses the meat, a quick reheating session restores much of its original softness.

10. Why does traditional charcoal-grilled bak kwa taste better than machine or oven-baked versions?

Charcoal grilling imparts a distinct smoky depth of flavour through the combustion of hardwood coals, which drippings of fat and sugar vapourise onto when hitting the embers. This creates complex aromatic compounds and micro-charred caramelised edges that modern electrical convection ovens or automated gas conveyor belts cannot replicate. Machine-baked versions offer consistency and efficiency, but charcoal grilling delivers the rich complexity favoured by traditionalists.
