10. How does SHR compare to traditional methods like IPL hair removal?
SHR and traditional IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) both use light energy, but they differ significantly in delivery and comfort. Traditional IPL uses a single, high-energy pulse that targets the melanin (pigment) in the hair, which can feel like a sharp “snap” or rubber band sensation and carries a higher risk of burning or pigmentation for darker skin tones. In contrast, SHR uses the “In-Motion” technique of low-energy, high-frequency pulses. This method gradually and gently heats the follicle over multiple passes, making the treatment virtually pain-free and much more comfortable—you typically only feel a warm sensation. Because of its lower peak energy, SHR is safer and more effective for a wider range of skin tones, including the darker skin common in Singapore, and can also target finer hair more successfully than older IPL systems.
