The Dance Place is truly impressive! Dance Instructors are international, experienced and world-class. Their dedication and professionalism outstanding. The studios are well-equipped and the school is very welcoming. Especially recommend for those who have always wanted to dance but didn’t have the chance or time. The school is a gem, with its students-centered approach. A special shout-out to its friendly and competent reception and admission staff (Melati!). If you are exploring DANCE in Singapore or looking to develop your potential, The DANCE PLACE is where you should be!

This is a dance school located on Orchard Road, featuring three very beautiful and spacious studios. The flooring is of excellent quality, and each studio is large with bright windows. Facilities like these are incredibly rare in land-scarce Singapore—especially on Orchard Road—perhaps one of a kind. There are many adult-friendly classes every day, not only ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance, but also musical theatre, tap dance, and many other styles. Many of the instructors are professional dancers from around the world, and every single teacher is patient and highly professional. I highly recommend experiencing this dance school in Singapore.

HJ Teo
I really enjoyed the workshop by Ballet Body. I had only been for their fitness classes before so I was a bit intimidated at the start, but the teacher’s (Lisha) explanations were clear enough for even a beginner like me to follow; generally there are more experienced students in the class that you can watch and copy if you don’t get it at first. The teacher was attentive and gave us individual feedback for improvement as well. The little performance at the end workshop is optional, although in the encouraging environment, I don’t think anyone wanted to miss out! The new studio is also really bright and feels spacious, and the mirrors on 2 opposite walls are super helpful. Thanks for a great experience for my first time dancing ballet!
Michelle Hsia
Very good ballet studio, all instructors are professional trained and very nice. Good for adults who like to dance even without any ballet experience. Have shower facilities, very clean. Staff very friendly.

As a returning ballet student, I was looking for a school which offers adult ballet classes and passionate teachers who take adult students seriously. I have since settled at M.A. Ballet and have been attending classes for the past 4 years! Catherine Lau
I have been taking lessons at Assemble’ Studio for 1 year and have tried other ballet schools. I must say that Assemblé’ Studio is truly a community for adult dancers. Classes are small enough for Raquel to customise depending on who attend on the day. This is not to be taken for granted as the skillsets among adult dancers are quite varied. I never feel bored drilling on fundamentals as Raquel always includes enough challenges to keep us “on our toes.” The camaraderie among dancers is infectious.
Lou
Raquel is an extremely patient and kind instructor and founder, who takes the time to get to know every single one of her dancers. Her exercises at the barre and center are both creative and effective. Really grateful to be able to learn and progress under her! I even managed to get back en pointe even after years of not dancing en pointe. Would also highly recommend the variation courses (modifications available for all levels). 🥰
Lena Tan
Was grateful that Raquel helpful recommendations to join Gym. Ballet while waiting for Absolute Beginner class to start. She has been very helpful to my need. This has given me more confidence to begin my ballet journey. Also Grace is a patient and encouraging teacher that give us motivation to go on.

Krystal
Amazing standards of teaching from an intelligent, kind and meticulous principal, who above all – tries her best to cater to all parents and students in their schedules, limitations & strengths.
Min Lee
I’ve been taking Adult Ballet classes for over two years, learning from Ms Elizabeth and Ms Germaine. I started in the beginner class and now attend pointe classes too. Ms Elizabeth is very encouraging and gives individual corrections, which really helped me improve. Her mat exercises, especially for the abs, were tough at first, but now I understand how important they are for building strength. Ms Germaine’s classes are very step-by-step and targeted — the exercises may seem simple, but you’ll definitely feel the muscles working the next day! I also love the atmosphere here. The beginner class students are welcoming and supportive — we encourage each other, laugh together. It feels so much more uplifting and not-competitive compared to other ballet schools I’ve tried. The studio itself is beautiful too — it’s bright with big windows overlooking trees. Dancing with sunlight and greenery around makes each class even more enjoyable.

Helen
I’ve been taking adult ballet classes with Erica, and I feel so lucky to have found her. Her classes are very effective—challenging but never overwhelming. In other studios I sometimes felt lost or frustrated with overly complicated movements. She gives hands-on guidance to everyone regardless how many students are in the room, and always demonstrates the movements clearly. Her energy is so positive. Even when she teaches back-to-back classes, she still brings the same dedication and enthusiasm to each one. I’ve joined Le Grand classes through different platforms and promotions, and always feel welcomed. Appreciate that there’s no hard-selling of class packs.
Kitty World
Wonderful classes and instructors, highly recommend their Ballet fitness and Pilates classes.
Audrey Toh
Le Grand School of Dance provides a conducive environment for learning ballet and has a dedicated team of teachers who are very nurturing. They make lessons interesting for the children and genuinely care about their students, helping my daughter to progress at her own pace. Even the zoom classes conducted during Circuit Breaker and Phase 2 Heightened Alert were well organized and subsidized by the school out of goodwill, which we appreciate. My daughter always enjoys going for her ballet classes and absolutely adores her teachers at Le Grand, highly recommended!

TheGirlCo’s Recommendation
Choosing the right studio depends on what kind of dancer you are—or hope to become. Here are our top picks based on different goals and lifestyles 2026 edition:
1. If you want serious professional exposure, prestige, and high standards
Our pick: Singapore Ballet Ltd
If you want ballet training that feels rooted in real artistry, Singapore Ballet Ltd is as legit as it gets. This isn’t just a studio—it’s the nation’s leading professional ballet company, which means the training environment naturally carries a higher level of discipline, musicality, and technique.
What makes Singapore Ballet Ltd stand out is the culture. You’re surrounded by dancers who respect the craft, teachers who understand performance quality, and an atmosphere that feels purpose-driven. The structured adult levels also make it approachable even if you’re starting later, while still allowing you to progress properly without feeling lost.
2. If you’re an adult beginner who wants a safe, supportive space (with no intimidation)
Our pick: Assemblé Studios
Starting ballet as an adult can feel scary, especially if you’ve ever walked into a class and felt like everyone else already knows what they’re doing. Assemblé Studios solves that problem beautifully. It’s designed specifically with adult dancers in mind, making it one of the most welcoming ballet spaces in Singapore.
Their biggest USP is how structured and intentional their adult programmes are. The Technique Class Series focuses on fundamentals, meaning you’re not just “following along”—you’re actually improving week by week. Their Graded Ballet Series and private mentoring also offer flexibility, so you can learn at your own pace without feeling pressured.
And if you’re the type of girl who needs motivation and community to stay consistent, Assemblé’s supportive vibe is a huge plus. It’s not competitive. It’s not intimidating. It feels like a safe space to grow.
3. If you want structured certification, RAD exams, and long-term progression
Our pick: City Ballet Academy
For girls who want to progress seriously—or families who want ballet to be more than just an enrichment activity—City Ballet Academy is one of the strongest options on this list. Their RAD syllabus structure is clear, systematic, and designed for steady development, which makes it a good fit for students who thrive with discipline and measurable milestones.
A major USP is their strong reputation for DSA preparation. If ballet is part of a bigger goal (such as entering arts schools or building a portfolio for future pathways), City Ballet Academy provides the kind of training foundation that supports those ambitions.
Even for adults, the structured training style can be very appealing if you’re someone who prefers a “proper class” environment with consistent technique work rather than a casual drop-in vibe.
4. If you want ballet as a workout (toning, posture, and feminine strength)
Our pick: BalletBody
If you love the idea of ballet but also want something that feels like a modern workout, BalletBody is the perfect middle ground. It blends ballet foundations with fitness-style conditioning, making it ideal for women who want results like improved core strength, flexibility, posture, and long dancer lines—without needing prior dance background.
The vibe here is empowering and modern. You’ll still do barre and centre-inspired movements, but the focus is less on strict perfection and more on feeling strong and elegant in your own body.
It’s especially good for women who want ballet as a lifestyle routine—something you can do weekly as part of your fitness and wellness glow-up era.
Final Thoughts
Ballet offers more than beautiful lines and elegant choreography—it builds posture, perseverance, and poise that stays with you long after you leave the studio. Whether you’re stepping into your first plié, preparing for RAD exams, or simply looking for a graceful way to stay fit, Singapore’s ballet scene offers something uniquely empowering for every woman.
From heritage academies to modern adult-focused studios, the right space will nurture not just your technique, but your confidence. Take that first class, lace up those ballet shoes, and let yourself grow stronger—inside and out. And if you’re feeling adventurous and want to explore another expressive, empowering art form, don’t miss our guide to the best pole dance studios in Singapore for a completely different kind of strength and sensuality.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. At what age can my child start ballet lessons in Singapore?
Most private studios welcome little ones as young as 3 years old for “Creative Movement” or “Pre-Ballet” classes. These sessions focus more on rhythm and coordination than strict technique. For formal syllabus training, such as the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Pre-Primary level, children usually need to be at least 5 years old.
2. I’m an adult with zero experience and no flexibility. Is it too late for me to start?
Absolutely not. Singapore has a thriving adult ballet community. Many studios offer “Introduction to Ballet” or “Ballet Fitness” courses specifically designed for those who have never touched a barre. These classes focus on posture and core strength in a no-judgment zone, so you don’t need to be able to do a split on your first day.
3. What is the difference between the RAD and CSTD syllabi commonly found here?
The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is a UK-based syllabus that is very popular in Singapore and is known for its focus on classical technique and slow, steady progression. The Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing (CSTD) is an Australian syllabus that tends to be slightly more versatile and upbeat, often incorporating more expressive movements earlier on. Both are globally recognized and offer formal certifications.
4. What does my child need to wear for their first trial class?
For a trial, most schools are quite relaxed. You don’t need the full gear immediately—a comfortable t-shirt and leggings with a pair of clean socks will usually suffice. Once enrolled, you’ll be expected to get the “uniform,” which typically includes a specific color leotard, pink or flesh-colored tights, and leather or canvas ballet slippers.
5. How many times a week do we need to attend classes?
For beginners and young children, once a week is the standard “hobbyist” pace. However, as students move into higher graded levels or vocational tracks, studios often recommend or require twice-weekly attendance to build the necessary muscle memory and strength required for exams.
6. Are ballet exams compulsory every year?
In most cases, no. Exams are a great way to track progress and earn a certificate, but they aren’t strictly mandatory for someone just dancing for fun. However, some schools may require a student to pass an exam or an internal assessment before they are allowed to move up to the next grade level with their peers.
7. Can ballet really help my child with Direct School Admission (DSA)?
Yes, it is a common pathway. Many secondary schools in Singapore offer DSA for niche talents in performing arts, including ballet. Students who have reached a high grade (usually Grade 6 and above) and have a portfolio of performances or competition wins often use their ballet background to apply for prestigious schools or specialized arts institutions.
8. How much should I budget for ballet classes in Singapore?
Costs vary depending on the prestige of the studio and the level of the dancer. On average, you can expect to pay between $35 and $55 per hour-long lesson at a private studio. Community centers often offer more affordable options, while specialized “pre-professional” academies may charge higher fees that include coaching and conditioning.
9. Will there be opportunities to perform on a real stage?
Most studios organize a biennial (once every two years) or annual concert at theaters like the University Cultural Centre or Victoria Theatre. These performances are a highlight for students but do come with extra costs for costumes, rehearsals, and tickets. Some schools also participate in local and international dance competitions.
10. Is ballet suitable for boys in Singapore, and are there many of them?
The “Billy Elliot” effect is real, and the number of boys in Singapore ballet is steadily growing. Many studios actively encourage boys to join and may even offer “boys-only” coaching sessions. Ballet provides incredible athletic benefits, including explosive jumping power and core stability, which many find complements other sports like gymnastics or football.
